The surgery was a success!

As the day started at 5 in the morning...a dreadful hour in the morning for just about anyone. We felt like we were going together as a family to help Maddox's ear infections subside. All we want is to do the best for our little boy. We stumbled around our still packed up house gathering 2 bags full of the things we might need. We were the first ones called up when we went to the doctors office, filled out our paperwork and sat down in the waiting room among 5 other kids with nervous parents feeling the same thing as we were. We were called back and we got an overwhelming response from all the nurses on how sweet and handsome Maddox was... that made us proud it still didn't alleviate the feeling of nervousness that had gradually made it's way to our faces. It's real, our son is here at the doctors office, we got to do this now. We put on the tiny hospital gown covered with clowns and took some pictures (we need to download the software to the computer so we can post those pictures) The anesthesiologist came in and explained how he was going to give Maddox a combination of inhaled drugs to make him sleep only for 15 minutes. He would be back and doing his usual routine after the feeling of confusion from this big change and funny feelings went away for him. We felt comforted by the fact that he would be back to his normal self soon and there were not many risks...I think the only answers to our questions was at that point to see Maddox after the surgery went well. All we wanted to know was that Maddox was going to feel better. Immediately Maddox fell asleep on my chest, the sweetest feeling in the world to me. The doctor came in and picked Maddox up, one look at the doctor and he feel back asleep on his shoulder. We knew then he was going to be all right...we waited long enough to eat a banana and read a little bit of Money Magazine when we heard,"The Wheeler Family...The Wheeler Family??" That's us....we go back to the room and they bring in Maddox his eyes were red and as soon as he took one look at our faces he started crying, he wanted us, he wanted a bottle, he wanted something comforting. We gave him everything, got a prescription, and took off to CVS to get the prescription filled. At first he seemed a bit bothered by the whole situation and whenever he looked at us he would cry, as if to tell us that he didn't want any part of that again. As we arrived home we got our happy baby once again, playing with his toys on the floor and giving us big smiles. We can tell he feels better, last night he slept from 10pm until 8:30am which is the first time he has ever slept in that long. He seems to be less fussy and has not pulled at his ears once...this is wonderful news for us. We'll keep updates on his progress but at the time being it was a really good experience with great doctors and a great result. Thank you all for the great e-mails!! We love you!
